How to find what theme an existing WordPress site is using (for PC)

    Using Firefox Browser

    1. Pull up the website you would like to know the theme being used (must be a wordpress site)

    2. At the top left, use the pull down on the Firefox icon.

    3. Select web developer

    4. Select page source

    5. Now click Cntl F (find) which will appear at bottom left.

    6. Type in the word Theme and it will highlight the word theme in the body of page.

    7. Next to the word theme will be the name of theme used.

    Hope this is helpful….

How long does it REALLY take to put navigation item on a theme and build pages?

    Hi all

I have had varied results here. Some developers will take 4 hours and some will take 2 hours.  Since we are charging client per hour and have to account for each task what is with the variation on this. So to be specific, a PC says on a task, Place Nav Items in Top and Build out corresponding pages.

We need to set a standard time for this as anything over 2/3  hours seems too long. I need developer input of course.

    thanks,

    juliette

mm I think the variation comes from the time it takes a developer to do the context switch from whatever he is doing and start working on whatever he is asked to. if im in charge of a site, and you ask me to create a menu/page, it shouldnt take me longer than a couple of minutes as Im supposed to know already the structure and constraints of the site. In the other hand, if I get a login and a ftp by email of a site i’ve never worked with, then its going to take me some time to get used to it, the plugins it use, the theme, the framework, etc.

other times menus arent created, and thus the dev needs to dive into the php templates and code the menu himself.

last but not least.. several times requirements “outrange” whats included in the theme, and diving into the php files of a pre-made theme isnt as simple as it sounds. simple stuff like making root menu items unclickable or changing the number of columns of a page/post require some evaluation of the consequences those changes will have in the whole package.

    Theme Discussions with Clients

Sent to me from Dave: (Note — this client wasn’t a STW client, but I think the convo is useful for other high maintenance clients!)

<Client name> is going to be a handful. She wants an overview of the Chameleon theme so she can understand all the possibilities. Not sure how to respond to that….

    My answer:

Dave – I see that you’ve already had 3 1-hour calls with Susan on themes. Wow. Her SOW states that we’ll do 2 1/2-hour calls (total of 1 hour) discussing theme changes, etc. So… please let her know that we’re going to be billing her for the extra 2 hours of phone calls on themes. That will hopefully bring this issue to a head.

Re how to answer her question on the the chameleon theme — I’d show her some of the sites we’ve implemented with it, and tell her that these are our recommended page layouts — that we use them because they are best from a marketing perspective.

Sites include: thecouplesdoc.com, adam klein’s site (as you know). There may be more – you could ask Juliette.

If she wants to know more, she can look at the page templates on this page: http://www.elegantthemes.com/demo/?theme=Chameleon

But that we’re already charging extra for the time spent on the theme discussions and will keep charging as we factor only an hour into the price of the website for this as stated in her contract.

If she gets [nasty] and wants to end with us, I’m probably fine with that. I’m NOT willing to lose money on her.

We are totally willing to create sample pages for her and to have tons more discussions with her, but they’ll be billed at $xx/hour.
